Edinburgh’s Best Steak Restaurants 2017

The Best of Edinburgh – Top Steak Restaurants in 2017

Foodies are spoilt for choice when it comes to good restaurants in Edinburgh, but with so many options for steak lovers, we thought we’d lend a hand by recommending a few of our personal favourites. There was a lot to consider when pulling together a listing of the best steak restaurants, obviously, the quality of the meat is the main factor as is the skill of the chef cooking your choice of cut to pink perfection. But we don’t stop there, a solo steak is a sorry sight, once a restaurant nails the steak we look to the sides for inspiration.

So here it is, in no particular order, Edinburgh’s best steak restaurants in 2017

(we’ll be adding more Edinburgh steak restaurants as we discover them, be sure to sign up to our newsletter or follow us on social media for new additions)

CHOP HOUSE

The Chop House boasts two Edinburgh steak restaurants serving up the best British dry-aged beef cooked over an open-flame, charcoal grill.

A fine selection of single and sharing cuts are the focus of the menu and are accompanied by delicious starters like beef carpaccio, scallops & oysters. Sides such as mac & cheese and mash & gravy are only a few available and the salted caramel fondue sharing dessert is another hit.

Thirsty? With wines from across the world and an exceptional cocktail list, the Chop House will ensure you have a memorable experience.

Open from 12pm Monday to Friday for lunch and 10am at the weekend for brunch where dishes like the Butchers Breakfast and eggs benedict are on offer.

Head over on a Sunday when a cracking roast is on the menu, served from 12pm at both Chop House Leith & Market Street.

Popular Steaks at the Chop House

The most popular steak is the porterhouse sharing cut. Part fillet, sirloin & rump – it offers steak lovers different flavours & textures.

For best results, the Chop House suggests that their porterhouse steak be served medium as this cooks the marbled fat just enough to ensure added flavour whilst retaining tenderness.

There’s a great selection of sauces on offer, including blue cheese, bearnaise & peppercorn, although a firm favourite is the bone marrow gravy & chimichurri. The side dish offering creates more tough decisions – we recommend bringing a few friends and sampling as many as possible, but if there’s only two of you the mac & cheese or cauliflower cheese with skinny chips is always a winning combination. If in doubt, search for cheese.

STEAK

Steak is a classic Steak Restaurant with soft, theatrical interior design. The staff have a high attention to detail when preparing and cooking food, and the waiting staff provide a personal attentive service.

There is also an extensive wine list offering a good choice to everyone. Whilst steak is the main event, there is also a great selection of seafood and vegetarian dishes available.

Popular Steaks

Steak’s best sellers are the Fillet Steak and Chateaubriand, the house recommendation is to have these are cooked medium rare.

In terms of sides, the beef dripping skin on fries are to die for, as are the beer battered onion rings. If you have room for a little extra, the house special is the Creamed Peas, Leeks & Bacon. Delicious!
