Edinburgh is a city filled with foodies – locals are spoilt for choice when it comes to fantastic independent eateries, and tourists often visit the city on the strength of Edinburgh’s food scene alone. Anybody wanting to get the lowdown on Edinburgh’s food and drink scene will have plenty of resources to help work up an appetite, there are so many great food bloggers to turn to for advice on where to eat in Edinburgh.
We caught up with Erica from Foodinburgh, who recently shared some very exciting news that will be sure to please the plethora of Edinburgh Foodies!
Where to start really? I’m married and I have a 12yr old. I’ve been self-employed since I was 22. I’ve written two books and had some crazy experiences as a parent blogger like being an ambassador for Royal Caribbean, Xbox, and Toys R Us (I’ve been very lucky!). I like food, obviously! I play the cornet in a brass band (band geek!). I also like playing poker in the casino, though I don’t get chance to play as much now.
I’ve always loved food and I had incorporated reviews on my parenting blog and it was one of my favourite features, so Foodinburgh was an extension of that really.
I’d probably be classed as a bit of a veteran. I’ve been blogging for 12 years, I started a couple of weeks after my daughter was born.
I love being able to share my thoughts, it’s an outlet for my creative side. I’m also really into the entrepreneurial/business side of it. Blogging has given me so many experiences, it has shaped my whole life really. I’m very grateful for it.
I’m not a massive blog reader now. I do enjoy reading articles on personal development though, that’s probably my favourite blog topic. I also keep up to date with my friends’ blogs
Well, Foodinburgh has ensured I’ve eaten out on average around 3 times a week all of last year! Surprisingly I’ve managed to stay the same weight (I’d hoped to lose a bit, but that’s practically impossible). I live on mugshots the rest of the time!

Thanks! I’d always had ideas of doing this and that with the site. I’ve done membership type products in the past, so I guess it made sense really. I have a whiteboard and it has lots of fancy ideas, but the actual decision to launch the members’ card happened while I was in Amsterdam three weeks ago. I’m not one to hang about once a decision has been made! It’s amazing how quickly you can make things happen when you put your mind to it.
I’m hoping it will be much more than just discounts. I’d like to take people on a food adventure, discovering new restaurants, dishes, and artisan food businesses around Edinburgh. The offers are merely a vehicle to facilitate that. Cardholders can expect a variety of offers from discounts, to added value, to hidden exclusive benefits.
Yes! This isn’t a set and forget project for me. The card is an ongoing project which will allow me to share experiences with cardholders. So on top of continually adding new offers to keep it fresh, there will be events and supper clubs too. I’m discussing various opportunities at the moment which I can’t talk about, but which I think will make it really exciting. I’ll also be developing the site and the card to make it better in the future, but one step at a time!
Exciting update alert: a Foodinburgh App is also in development to accompany the card!
The card is £20 for 2018 and it’s valid until 31st December 2018. I estimate that on average you’d need to use it around 3-4 times to repay your investment (depending on which offer you choose). You could easily make it back in one sitting on some of the offers. 50p from each card also goes to Social Bite, I believe if you have enough, you should give a little to others. Social Bite allows us as a community to give back in food, so it’s perfect.

I’ve used everything I’ve learned over the last 12 years to build the audience. We have nearly 13k followers on Facebook, and around 32k altogether across all platforms. The Foodinburgh Supper Club is a community of foodies. I’m really conscious to ensure it remains upbeat, positive, and inclusive, so it doesn’t matter if you’re having £200 meals every weekend, or you’re recommending somewhere you’ve found that’s really great value because you’re skint, it’s for everyone. I hate food snobbery and I’m pleased to say it’s not like that at all.
