Bijou Bistro – Diamond in the Smooth

Adjective – Small and elegant
Noun – A jewel or trinket

Hiding in the open Bijou Bistro offers those in the Leith Links (and those willing to travel) a great wee spot to enjoy anything from a light bite to a mighty meal.

Bijou Menu

The waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate, the view of Leith Links was a great side order – especially on such a lovely day.

The bistro offers three portion sizes for the majority of their meals (bijuo, medium and main). It’s a great way to cater for all appetites, my dining partner selected the bijou haddock and fries whilst I ordered the chicken burger, not feeling incredibly greedy I opted for medium rather than main.

Our meals didn’t take long to arrive and were the perfect size for each of our needs, ever the gentleman we’ll start by looking at my catering companion’s fish dish.

Fish and Chips

The fish was well cooked in a light fluffy batter, with only the husk of a lemon wedge remaining at the end of the meal I didn’t even need to ask if it was good. Never one to make assumptions though, I asked how it was, the response: “yeah, it was really nice”.

Chicken Burger

My chicken burger was superb, it was an actual chicken breast (not processed) with a nice peppery breadcrumb coating, the meat was moist and worked well with the paprika mayo on the side.

Both plates had chips, we ate them, but to be fair they were nothing to blog home about.

We both enjoyed our meals, this is a great little spot to relax and unwind whilst having a portion of food sized according to appetite. The bistro’s name is perfectly apt, it’s a little gem located in a fantastic area.
