Appetite Direct has been re-appointed as the Official Catering Partner of the Edinburgh International Festival. The company has been chosen to cater International Festival venues for the next three years, providing its award-winning catering service at a number of events throughout the three-week festival.
Appetite Direct creates and delivers events of all kinds for private, charity and corporate clients. It has worked closely with the International Festival since being established in 2003, formally becoming Official Catering Partner to the Festival in 2013.
The partnership will also see Appetite Direct continue its collaboration with Castlebrae Community High School as part of the International Festival’s three-year arts residency at the school in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh. A partnership between the International Festival, Castlebrae Community High School and the City of Edinburgh Council Creative Learning Department, the residency began in 2014 and culminates in 2017 with the school’s gym hall being transformed into a public venue at this year’s International Festival. Featuring workshops, bespoke mentoring and work experience for students, the residency not only focuses around the arts but also highlights the varied professional skill sets required in the International Festival’s delivery.
Appetite Direct will work with students throughout 2017 as they prepare for their schools use as a fully-fledged venue this summer. This includes researching and developing ideas for a menu that will be served at a Festival Launch event that the students are hosting at the school in March, and culminating with the students running a café, with guidance and support from Appetite Direct, when the school is used as a venue during the International Festival. A demonstration and planning session was held this week by Appetite Direct owner Nigel Kennedy and Head Chef Gareth Harrison in preparation for the launch event which will take place in March.
Appetite Direct owner, Nigel Kennedy, said:
‘We are very excited to renew this prestigious sponsorship deal with the Edinburgh International Festival. We have always had a great relationship with the International Festival team and this reinforces the value we place on building and nurturing relationships with our partners. This sponsorship deal puts our name in front of many businesses in the city, which can only be a good thing for our brand, developing the business and enabling our goal of doubling turnover by 2019. It also highlights our commitment to the arts in Edinburgh, which the International Festival is such an integral part of. We’re especially looking forward to working with the Festival team and the students at Castlebrae High School, as we support the transformation of the school into a full venue this year’.
Fergus Linehan, Edinburgh International Festival Director, said:
‘We have had a close working relationship with Appetite Direct for many years and I am delighted we are developing this relationship into a long-term partnership. They have become an integral part of our residency at Castlebrae Community High School where our professional development projects have enabled us to not only stimulate young people’s experiences of the arts but also mentor them for a career in other areas including, in this case, the hospitality and events industry’
